SCHTUM (AT) / ISABELLA FORCINITI (IT)

The Vienna-based duo Schtum around Manu Mayr and Robert Pockfuß produce brute-noisy, rhythmic noise based entirely on analog equipment. Equipped with a guitar and a bass, a mono buzzer and effect pedals, the two musicians pursue an exploratory approach: oscillating rhythms peel out of the noise-scapes, bringing the inherent life of the instruments and devices to the fore. We enter a world of feedback loops, sub-bass frequencies and repetitive structures.

Schtum konzentriert das Spektrum von Oszillationen kontrollierter Rhythmik, Noise, oder Mikrotonalität in eine Ästhetik zwischen Maschine und Organ. Von den Instrumenten in Gang gesetzte Prozesse werden so lange überreizt, verfremdet, überlagert, gestört, bis sie - einer ausgeschrienen Stimme gleich - brechen. In dieser elektro-akustischen Welt aus Feedback-Schleifen, Sub-Bass-Interferenzen und Noise-Gezwitscher entsteht die Vorlage für das  Spielfeld in dem sich „schtum“ bewegt.

Her music and live performances traverse the spectrum that stretches from meticulously crafted arrangements to impromptu improvisation. Throughout this artistic journey, she adroitly wields a toolkit of fragmented yet rhythmically captivating beats, intricate manipulations of spatial perceptions, and intriguing psychoacoustic phenomena.
